In fall 2003, Connie Moody, the Director of REACH (former UC Employee Assistance Program) and Courtnee Carrigan (Program Manager, UC Women’s Center) heard the requests of Black Women who felt the need to share experiences they were facing as employees of the University. The two started Sister Circle, a group which met on campus to discuss challenges, obstacles, and provide encouragement to Black women employees. The group met quietly for years, but struggled with how to help black women feel comfortable enough to share this meeting as a value to themselves and to the University. Even though it remained in the hearts and minds of those who participated as a need, Sister Circle, at some point ended. But the conversations of issues and support didn’t end and the conversations of challenges continued.
In Fall 2015, UC Black Women on the Move was created to take its place as a University sponsored organization for UC Black women employees
