Ari Finkelstein

Ari Finkelstein is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Judaic Studies. Ari holds dual law degrees from McGill University, an MA from Hebrew Union of Jerusalem, and a Ph.D from Harvard University. He joined UC faculty in 2013.

Rina Williams

Rina Verma Willilams is an Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Political Science. She received her A.M and Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University, and B.A. (Political Science) and B.S. (Chemistry) from the University of California at Irvine. Her areas of specialization include South Asian politics; women and gender; ethnicity and nationalism; religion and law; and politics of the developing nations.

Amy Lind is Mary Ellen Heintz Endowed Chair and Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and affiliate faculty of Sociology, Romance Languages & Literatures, and the School of Planning. Her areas of scholarship and teaching include critical development studies, global political economy, postcolonial studies, queer theory, transnational feminisms, social movements, and studies of neoliberal governance.

Ethan Katz

University of Cincinnati professor Ethan Katz joined the rankings of  well-known writers, such as Eli Wiesel and Philip Roth. Recently, the Jewish Book Council awarded Katz the National Jewish Book Award for 2015 in the category of “Writing Based on Archival Material" for his book, “The Burdens of Brotherhood: Jews and Muslims from North Africa to France,” which was published in November.  Katz, along with his wife, Hagit Caspi, and his father, Allan J. Katz, a former U.S. Ambassador to Portugal, attended the March 9, awards ceremony in New York City.

Stan Corkin

Dr. Stanley Corkin, a professor with the departments of history and English & comparative literatures, would say each of these descriptions symbolizes Boston in a specific and different way.  An expert at analyzing how different films and television shows represent geographic areas and their changing identities, Corkin has already written two books about the subject.

It was Nov. 14, 2017, and Dr. Jeff Blevins had just received the good news.  This good news was more than 5 years in the making.

The Center’s Board of Trustees had just voted unanimously to make the Journalism Department one of its humanities departments.  This makes a total of 14 UC departments that are eligible to receive funding for its undergraduate, graduate, and faculty scholarships.

Cold sweats.  High fever.  Vomiting.  Diarrhea. Muscle pain.  These are just some signs a person is infected with malaria. Professor Guy-Lucien Whembolua felt a few of these symptoms, as he lay in bed, his body’s temperature alternating between high fever and cold sweats.  For a couple days, he was stuck in underneath blankets, fighting malaria.   Then, about a week later, his nephew struggled with the same fight; he, too, had malaria.
